About the Property
The Baraboo River is the dominating force on this property. Most of the property is located on the floodplain of the river and periodically large sections of the property become flooded. A large pond and several small oxbow ponds are scattered throughout the property, which provide excellent habitat for many wildlife species, including wood duck, beaver, and great blue heron. Land located south of the river is often shaded by bluffs located along a ridge, including a large sandstone bluff called Third Castle, which stands 182 feet above the river. This area is unique in that is has many plant species normally only found further north. In the late 1990’s a three acre parcel was planted to native prairie and has been maintained as such. In 2012 native American pictographs were discovered on the property. The pictographs are between 800-1200 years old.
