In the late fall of every school year, Wonewoc-Center School District performs vision and hearing screenings. There are also dental clinics in the late fall and winter that provide fluoride treatments and sealants through the Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile program with a signed permission slip.
Vision screening is done in conjunction with the Lion's Club. Children in 4K-6th grade will be screened by the Lion's Club. Forms will be sent home for this with an option to exclude students from this screening if you wish. The purpose of a vision screening program is to identify those children who have external eye problems, reduced vision in one or both eyes, deficiencies of eye alignment and to refer them for professional examination. Screenings for students of any age/grade can also done by teacher or parent referral.
Hearing screening is done automatically by the school nurse. Children in K, 1st, and 2nd grades are screened. The purpose of hearing screening programs is to identify those children who have hearing loss in one or both ears and to refer them for professional examination. Screenings for students of any age/grade can also be done by teacher or parent referral. Parent's can choose to exclude their child from hearing screening if they desire by filling out an exclusion form.
