Welcome! I am excited to be part of the Wonewoc-Union Center School District as a special education teacher for students in grades 4–8.
My goal is to help students recognize their strengths, understand how they learn best, and use those strengths to overcome the challenges they may face because of their disabilities. Building positive relationships with students is a big part of my work. I want students to know that I believe in them and that we can find the right tools and strategies to help them be successful.
In my classroom, we work on much more than academics. I help students with reading, math, organization, study skills, self-advocacy, and behavior/self-regulation. A big part of my job is helping students become more independent and learn how to use the tools available to them. Sometimes that means finding a simple solution that allows a student to show what they know—for example, using voice typing when writing and spelling are getting in the way of demonstrating their knowledge.
Wonewoc-Union Center is especially meaningful to me because it is also my alma mater. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to give back to the community and school that did so much for me when I was growing up. I have been working in the W-C district since 2020, and I love being part of this school community. Even better, two of my five children, Landon and Logan, are students here!
I have degrees in Physical Education from UW-La Crosse and Special Education from Winona State University. My background in both areas has given me a strong appreciation for helping students stay active, find their strengths, and develop confidence in themselves.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and being outdoors. I love boating, Nordic and downhill skiing, UTV/ATV riding, snowmobiling, hiking, camping, cruising classic cars, listening to live music, and staying active. I also enjoy growing plants—especially succulents!
I feel very lucky to work with the students and families at Wonewoc-Union Center, and I look forward to helping our students discover what they are capable of and find the tools they need to succeed.
